Aunie Crocker & Cheesecake Brownies

Learning to Bake
Cheesecake Brownies

For some reason, I have never really learned to cook. I can bake a banana cake now and again, and I've been known to serve up a mean bowl of white chicken chili, but when I say that's all I know how to make, it's not an exaggeration.

Now that Daniel and I are in our new home, we've already been the hosts to several small events, mostly just football game nights. And I don't know what it is about football, but it makes me want to bake! Last Friday, I saw an amazing (and easy!) recipe for cheesecake brownies on Dana's blog, and I knew it would be the perfect sweet treat to serve up to our guests.

I followed the recipe as directed, but at 55 minutes, they weren't quite done yet (mine were in a deeper dish), so I let them sit in the oven for 60 minutes before pulling them out. To be honest, they probably could have used a full 75-minutes, because these things were not done. Initially, I was so embarrassed... my very first baked treat didn't turn out! But guess what? Instead of cheesecake brownies, we ended up indulging in "molten cheesecake brownies." The middle of the brownie batter ended up not getting cooked the whole way through, so these were a bigger hit underdone than if they had been fully baked. In fact, the next day, both Daniel and his brother asked if there were anymore "molten brownies" left... they wanted more! Success!

Yay! That's weird about them not cooking. I kept watching mine because I was worried they would be OVER baked haha. The brownie box said 35 minutes so I was worried that at 55 mins they would be burned or something but they turned out just right :) I wonder if it has to do with the brownie mix or something?

If that picture was taken in your new house, well, it looks GORGEOUS. (And so do the brownies.)

Those look delicious - and the idea of molten brownies sounds criminally good!! As soon as I get through my physical fitness test on Friday {provided all goes well} I'm making these!

I might have to try this one. And I'm sure they were delicious! I deliberately undercook things like this sometimes :) Good for you Aunie! xoxo

Yes it was! That's my new kitchen! We still haven't decorated the house, so I haven't taken any photos... but YES ... that's the new kitchen!!

You know, I'm not sure what the problem was... I was worried they'd be overbaked as well. I think my box said only 25 minutes! But, I think there are 2 factors that made a difference... 1> I used a pretty deep dish, so mine were a lot thicker than yours. I need to use a larger pan next time. 2> it was my first time cooking in this oven (we just moved into a new home) so I have no idea how it cooks!

I made these AGAIN (because yes, they're that good) last night, and baked them for about 70 minutes. They turned out JUST right today :) But again, maybe it's my altitude or my oven, or my deep dishes! :)

Thanks Amanda! I don't usually EVER do chocolate and cheesecake together, but for some reason, this is SO GOOD. You must give it a shot :)

Can't wait to see what you baked!

Thanks Joelle! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who undercooks. Oh my goodness, underdone pancakes, cookies, cakes... IT'S SO GOOD UNDERDONE! :)

You're so welcome. And trust me, I know what you're feeling. We've been having Boise State football nights AND Denver Bronco football nights... it's been so fun!

AH!! I would love to have a kitchen to bake all sorts of goodies. I love baking, I just wish I had the time and the space to do so more often. You are so lucky!! Also, "molten brownies" are the best ;)

One of my goals for the rest of this year is to work on learning to cook. I think it would be fun and definitely a good skill to have. Right now I am expert at making spaghetti and I make a wonderful completely homemade apple pie but otherwise I am a bit of a failure. These brownies look great!

I've waited for this kitchen for too long! Finally :)
