On our last day in Seattle, we explored downtown and had an absolute blast. We walked all over the place and took in the sights of Pier 57 and Pike Place Market, enjoyed delicious sushi at Japonesa, and we also did the Underground Tour! In all my years of living in and visiting Seattle, I'd never heard of the Underground Tour until one of our friends mentioned we should do it! Did you know that present-day Seattle was built on top of the old Seattle, which had been burned to the ground in the Great Seattle Fire of 1889? I had no idea! So we took the tour and soaked up a ton of Seattle knowledge. We almost almost went on a Duck Boat tour, but missed their last boat but just a couple minutes, so we'll save that adventure for next time! (For a funny Duck Boat-inspired story, read this!)
We finished the evening at Salty's on Alki Beach with my sister, her husband, my mom and her boyfriend. We dined on delicious seafood while looking out over the most spectacular waterfront Seattle views. It was a wonderful way to finish our trip!

Banana Slurpees were always our favorite growing up, so when we saw a 7/11, we had to stop in! All the 7/11's went out of business in Idaho so it's a treat to find a banana Slurpee!
Bill Speidel's Underground Tour was really cool! It detailed the destruction of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, and how the city rebuilt itself afterward.
My mom was a health inspector for the King County Health Department (she was involved in the big Jack in the Box E. coli outbreak in 1993) and worked in this building for years!

A BIG THANKS to: Marnie & Andy for letting us stay with you at your cozy house at Green Lake and for showing us the sights of Seattle (especially Molly Moons—oh my YUM!), Nanny & Papa for fixing us delicious meals and the accommodations on Whidbey, and the whole Stone clan for the great day, BBQ, and laughs on the 4th. Seattle, we miss you already! We can't wait to plan our next trip out.

The Duck tour is a blast! But make sure you don't go on a super hot day. A few years ago we went on a record breaking day (it was 101 or something like that) I thought we'd get a breeze and there was absolutely no breeze at all. I haven't been on the under Ground Tour since I was little but I keep intending to go again. I'm such a bad Seattleite - I've never been to Molly Moons. Glad you had fun, you remind me that I need to play tourist soon.
And now I want a banana slurpee, yum!

Aw, thanks Jamie! And YES... banana Slurpees are literally the bees knees. I will ONLY get banana, cherry or coke flavors, but banana takes the cake each time!

Ugh! We used to, but then they all mysteriously turned into "Jacksons"--we have a Jacksons family in town who owns them all now. I haven't been in one, but seriously, an ICEE is NOT a Slurpee!

That's such a good tip, thanks Lindsay! We would have been going at around 7pm, and I just knew it was going to cool off quick... so we will make sure to plan accordingly next time. And if you go to Molly Moons, I had the Sour Cream Strawberry (which was great), but the Stumptown Coffee was incredible! Next time, I'm getting the lavender or earl gray ice cream!

I live in Bremerton, which is an hour ferry ride from Seattle. I've been reading your blog for about a year or so now. It's cool to see you visit places that I casually walk by when I'm in Seattle. I can't help but smile and wave whenever a duck boat drives past. They are just so ridiculously funny to me. Glad you had fun.

You know, we didn't want to ride it because we were on a time crunch to get to the Underground Tour. I bet it would be pretty cool, and would like to add that to my "to do's" for next time... though, you're right... you just never know!

Ann, you totally reminded me! As we were walking to sushi, a Duck Boat went by with "Hammertime" playing on the intercom. All the people on the boat were too scared to dance along with the guy, so my sister and I broke it down right there on the sidewalk, and everyone pointed and started dancing with us. And when I say "break it down," I mean, we really really went to town. Like straight MC Hammerville on the sidewalk. It was great! Oh, and thanks for reading :) I really appreciate that!

I just love Seattle and it's the perfect little getaway since it's not too far from Boise! I may be a bit biased because my father is the director of operations for the company, but I always stop in at Pier 57 for some food and entertainment :)
Oh My GOSH, Aunie!!!! S and I went to Seattle for part of our honeymoon last month (we got married June 1st) when we stayed outside of Seattle in Snoqualimie, went hiking, and we went to Pike's Market AND Salty's - BEST jambalaya EVERRRRR! We even took photos at the same pier on the boardwalk at Alki!!!! Also, when are you going to tell us all your secret to looking so good! (you briefly mentioned in a previous post that you lost weight?) xxx

I want to do the Underground Tour! A former coworker of mine did it, and she mentioned it to me when I went to Seattle for business back in May 2010. If I ever get to go back to Seattle, that is DEFINITELY on my to-do list!! I bet it was AMAZING! (And I love that their website has a link, 'Can I Wear High Heels', haha!)
They are a really, really funny organization. They have an after-hours redlight tour... that one sounded interesting!
Yikes! I don't know about that!! I think I would stick to daytime. :)
