On Saturday, my mom and I ran the Famous Idaho Potato Half Marathon! We had a ton of fun! As I mentioned last week, we didn't train for it at all, so our goal was simply no walking. We should have been more ambitious, because not only did we rock the run, but we came in just under two hours, at a time of 1:58. Our fastest half is 1:48, so for no training I'd say we totally killed it. We ran the race with our friends Sean & Sydney, and we all finished right around the same time. We were all happy to have finished under two hours.
Overall, the race went great. We passed people holding signs that said, "Chuck Norris never ran a marathon," and "Toenails are overrated!" We love people watching, and it always makes the race go by quickly. I think what amazed me the most were the thousands of people out doing wonderful things for their bodies. It was so encouraging!
I started getting tired around mile 11, and when we came around the last bend, I saw Daniel standing in the grass right at mile 13, cheering us on, and it was all I needed to help me finish strong. I don't think there's anything better than a big smile & kiss from your husband right as you finish a long race. It makes it all worth it!
I'll tell you what, after the race, Daniel and I went to Cracker Barrel, and I had a big stack of Marion blackberry pancakes, a bowl of their homemade mac-and-cheese, a glass of chocolate milk, and a huge side of absolutely-no-guilt-what-so-ever. Later that afternoon, I even indulged in a well-deserved nap. It was the best day.
Next up on our list is a full marathon. We don't know which, but we're looking for ones in the Pacific Northwest that are really fun! Suggestions are welcome. Here's to fun races, being active with family, and lots and lots of sweat.

Thanks again for joining us! I'm so glad it was such a wonderful experience for us all. You two rock! Sean and I are thinking about committing to doing the full next year! We'd love for you guys to do it with us!
I'm in! Not kidding. Let's just go ahead and do it!! :) My mom and I have always wanted to run the full, and I don't think we could ask for a flatter course! LET'S DO IT! PS> thanks again for having us on your team. It was such a wonderful day.
awesome Aunie! I had a sister in law do that race and she had a blast. if you're ever interested in doing a bike race, I have some good suggestions. ;)

Ooh I've never done a bike race... but I bet it's a wonderful experience!
You're so sweet. I felt awful... absolutely awful right when we took all these. I was hobbling around because of my blisters! So thank you!
You're so nice! I told Jess, I felt just AWFUL ... very tummy sick if you know what I mean... TMI? Oh well :) 15 minutes for 1.5 miles is great! I AM a runner, but it took lots of prior training (2009-2011) to be able to run that far... now I literally go to the gym 7-days a week so the run wasn't too bad... but again, thank you.
Oh, and the kiddo looking at the potato? Totally made my day! He's enthralled!
She sure does... she's my inspiration for everything :)
Aw, thanks so much, Gina! Thank you for YOUR support!!
Great job! I love the matching outfits & like a geek, teared up about your little shout out to your husband lol I love that you're so supportive of each other!

Sweet! I'm in too then! Now we just have to convince Sean!!! :)
You're not a geek! That pulls at my heartstrings!! You did? OK, well honestly, he was the sweetest. His smile was SO BIG and he looked so proud while taking our photos afterward. I was astonished... he didn't care that I was sweaty or nauseous... he just kept smiling! :)
Just sign him up!
How about the Seattle Rock n' Roll Marathon at the end of June. Sounds like something you might enjoy. :)
<3
Way to go! You did an awesome job! One day I hope I'll be able to run a half, let alone a 10K!
Now THAT sounds awesome! I'm going to look into it!
Congrats ladies! You did an awesome job :)
*APPLAUSE!!!!* OK - you look AWESOME after running freaking 13 miles! Sounds like such a fabulous day!
COME RUN ONE WITH ME!!! Heck, I'll even come to SLC and do a 5K or 10K with you! We can walk, too! I just want to hang out!
I agree with Jess! I would have been gasping for air, in a ball, on the ground! You look like it was no big thing! Amazing!
I can't believe your time either! That's amazing with no prior training. But, you are a "runner"... I wish I was one... I force myself to do the elliptical, because a treadmill would kill my knees... And in 15 minutes I can do 1.5 miles... but, if that were on hard ground... it wouldn't happen... at all!
Oh, last thought: the little boy in the background of your picture, looking at the potato guy... So stinking cute!
