Muggle Quidditch
Sunday after church, we headed over to Boise State to watch my brother play and host a big Muggle Quidditch tournament. Yes, you read it right—Quidditch—like Harry Potter Quidditch. My brother is the captain and founder of the brand new Boise State team. Apparently, there are tournaments all over the world, and this club sport is really gaining momentum. The BSU team is called the Abraxans, aptly named after the flying horses in the popular wizardry series, which also fits with the school's mascot—the Broncos.
We watched BSU play and defeat the University of Idaho team in both games, and even overtime. It was exciting, it was fun, and it was really, really nerdy. But hey, it's not every day that you get your family together to go watch a bunch of adults run around on broomsticks and chase a golden snitch, now is it?
Did you like Stew's celebratory round-off above? Oh, and you may have noticed the big fancy camera up there shooting the team during their post-game huddle. The news came out to shoot and feature the Abraxans, and I knew it would be just perfect to show you the news segment so you can get a real idea of how cool (and slightly nerdy) this sport is. Give a big cheer for my bro, too. Stew is the man.
/ / Can you spot me (my back) or Daniel in the video? Ha!

We do a Quidditch the University I work at. It is always part of our Homecoming week. It is definitely interesting to say the least!
That brunette colour looks great on you!
The Harry Potter nerd in me really wants to have a go at Muggle Quidditch. It looks like so much fun!

I have to show this to my son he will think its amazing. He is a huge Harry Potter fan. And I can't get over how great your hair looks this new color!
Haha this is hilarious–I've never seen something like this before (besides Harry Potter obviously!)
I actually went to the Quidditch World Cup in NYC in 2011! I didn't plan on it, but a few friends were visiting and we saw that it was going on, we figured we might as well. It was hilarious to watch. I'm glad more schools are doing it!
Um AWESOME! And that dark hair looks really great on you!
Ha, this looks too incredibly awesome! :)

This is amazing! I feel like so many of my friends would join a muggle quidditch league. I would probably just be the photographer though ;)

This is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Oh my goodness! These photos totally just made my night! That's so awesome of your brother, many props to him!! I love the dark hair on you ... and purple is DEFINITELY your color!!
ARE YOU SERIOUS? Real life Quidditch!? That is amazing. x
Haha! I had a student a few years ago tell me he would be missing class the following week for a Quidditch match. I was like "Excuse me?! Ummm... Quidditch involves FLYING!"
Oh my goodness, I still don't recognize you and I'm STILL loving the hair! UVA where I am has a muggle quiddich team and there are always HUGE crowds out to watch them!
That sounds amazingly fun!! Your brother seems like a great guy. I wish we had done that in college :)
WOW!! I love Harry Potter I have a crazy obsession with it! Muggle Quidditch is a fantastic idea and reading this post just brought a smile to my face!
LOVED THIS! Looks like a blast!
AHHHH!!!!! THIS IS GREAT!!!
Love love your hair. I know I said that yesterday but had to say it again. Our school had a Quidditch team too. I totally wanted to play!
I watched 4 times and couldn't see you. 😕 Love the hair. Good colour pick Daniel

This is really cool.
Love it!
Ha. I'm wearing that purple jacket and all you can spot is my hair... so, I know it's me but you? Yeah, hard to see :) haha. Now my brother, you get to see PLENTY of him!
It definitely is! It was a lot more fun than I imagined it would be!
I hope you do! When I first saw it, I didn't even think it was a real thing!
Aw, thanks Andrea! I cant wait to wear your bows with it! They'll really pop against the dark :)
And the Quidditch Cup is crazy! The same school has won it since like '07. I hope Stew really pioneers his team to great things. I mean, he's only a Freshman!
You know, I took my camera in the off chance that I might snag a photo of Daniel and myself, but once the game got going, I couldn't resist capturing some pics for the team. I ended up with over 300 pictures for them!
Thank goodness it's my FAVORITE color! Lucky me!
Ha! That would be the funniest thing. Like... oh, I can't come to church today. I've got Quidditch. Or ... sorry, I've got to miss your wedding--Quidditch tourney. HA!
OMG it's HUGE over there! They are the PIONEERS of muggle quidditch!
#potterhead. Now if we can only learn how to get the Hogwarts table with the buffets that just appear. That's all that I want.
Thanks Whitney! It still feels different to see myself with the dark 'do!
Thanks so much, Leigh-Ellen! Oh my, when I saw the man running around the golden snitch outfit, I laughed so hard. The tennis ball sock in his pants is too weird to me, though. My brother played the snitch in a big tourney a couple weeks ago and was tackled so hard he broke his cheekbone! This sport is CRAZY!
this is so fantastic!
This. is. AWESOME!
How did I miss this? This looks awesome!

Haha! You know, when I post 5-days a week, I think it's easy to miss things sometimes. Reading 5 posts a week from all the blogs I follow can be overhelming! :)
Glad you like it, though. It was such a fun time. If I were going to play that game, I'd be the snitch!
This is AWESOME.
Somehow I missed this post. But that is awesome. I think my college was there, only they didn't have their cheerleaders there.
Ha! Isn't my brother the neatest? So proud of him.
Oh nice! Your team came to BSU for a game?
I don't know. Is it by region like college football? If so then I doupt it but there is always the world cup where they could met up.
That would be SO COOL!
It would be.
