The Toast of Firsts

Many of you knew I was a little worried about my sister's maid of honor toast that I gave last Saturday.

By "a little worried," let's just say it was nothing that a glass of Riesling couldn't fix.
And no, I didn't quote Wedding Crashers,
or read the whole thing word-for-word from a little scribbled on piece of paper.

I'm going to publish my speech here for you today,
as a way to give my sister a little something she can always remember from her special day with Andy.

Marnie... you're next, you know (and no... no date yet).
I hope you're cookin' up something good ♥
 _______________________________________________________________________

Growing up, despite the fact that she was a year and 6 days younger,
Marnie was always leaps and bounds ahead of me.
Each time we moved, she made friends first.
In fact, she always had a really close group of best girlfriends.
I had... like... one... ever.

She started shopping at Abercrombie first,
she got her own TV in her room first,
she even started cheerleading first...
and broke almost all of her bones first.

She also was the first to show love toward me.
To show me that she looked up to me as a big sis,
despite all the torture I put her through.
She was the first to share her clothes,
to pick me up when I needed a ride,
to give me a shoulder to cry on.

Watching her share this moment with her first true love
is something I am going to hold so close to my heart.
And today, as I stand by her side as her maid of honor,
I am the most proud sister in the whole world.

Marnie and Andy, you guys have what it takes.
You have joy, you have laughter, you have endless romantic love for each other.
You are best friends, heck— you are co-workers,
and you are a daughter and a son,
a sister and a brother,
and now a husband and a wife.

And I will be the first to admit,
the love that you two share is such a blessing.
It's an honor to share it with the both of you today.
Let's toast to the bride and groom.

Aw what a great speech!!! I had to give one at my sister's wedding last year and I worried for WEEKS about it. I made sure not to start drinking till after the speech I was so concerned. In the end I got up there, forgot everything I had written and gave this impromptu speech that I can't remember! There was a lot of crying too...and not just from me :)
